Tipstest is free to read. We pay for the research, writing and running of the site through advertising and affiliate links. This page explains how that works, and how it does and does not affect what we publish.
The short version
- Some links on Tipstest are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission. You pay the same price.
- Some pages show ads served by Google AdSense and other ad networks.
- Retailers and advertisers do not pay us to cover their products, and they do not see or approve our articles before they are published.
- As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
What is an affiliate link?
An affiliate link is a tracked link to a retailer’s website. If you follow one and make a purchase within the retailer’s tracking window, the retailer pays us a small share of the sale. That commission comes from the retailer, not from you. The price is the same whether you use our link or go to the store yourself.
You never have to use our links. If you would rather not, search for the product directly on the retailer’s site.
Which programs we work with
Amazon Associates. Tipstest takes part in the Amazon Associates program. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon does not review, sponsor or endorse our content.
Other retailers and affiliate networks. We also work with other affiliate programs, such as outdoor and travel retailers, booking sites and gear brands, either directly or through affiliate networks. The same rules apply to every one of them: the link may earn us a commission, and it never changes the price you pay.
When we join a new program that pays us, we update this page.
Advertising on Tipstest
Some pages show display ads served by Google AdSense and, from time to time, other ad networks. The ad network chooses which ads appear, not our writers. An ad on a page is not a recommendation from Tipstest, and we do not control or vouch for the products or companies in it.
Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this site and other sites. Google’s advertising cookies let Google and its partners show you ads based on those visits. You can turn off personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and you can opt out of personalized ads from many other vendors at aboutads.info. Our Privacy Policy explains how cookies and data are handled on this site.
How this affects what we recommend
Money keeps the site running, but it does not decide what we write. These are the rules we work to:
- Commission does not choose the pick. We decide what to cover and how to compare options before we look at whether a link can earn us anything. If the best choice for a reader has no affiliate program, we still say so.
- No paid placements. Brands cannot pay to appear in our guides, to be ranked higher, or to have criticism removed.
- Clear about evidence. Most of our gear guides are research based: we explain the specs, materials and trade-offs so you can compare products yourself. An article only carries a Tested label when it is based on our own hands-on testing.
- Free products and sponsorships are disclosed. If we ever receive a product for free or publish sponsored content, we will say so clearly in that article.
- Prices change. Prices, deals and availability can change after we publish. Always check the final price and details on the retailer’s site before you buy.
